Angel Tree
Remember a Prisoner. Reach a Child. Connect a Family.

Every child has a story. For 1.7 million American children, that story is filled with the abandonment, loneliness, and shame that comes from having a mom or dad in prison. Every year, Prison Fellowship reaches out to about 400 thousand of these children, by sharing the love of Jesus with them at Christmas.

Your group can make a difference in the lives of the children of prisoners in your community or in the difficult places to serve around the country. Join with Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program to help prisoners reconnect with their families by providing Christmas gifts and a personal message to the children on behalf of their incarcerated parent.

Your group will receive the names of children of prisoners and a gift type and personal message from their incarcerated parent. You purchase and deliver the gifts to the children on behalf of their incarcerated parent. Your group gets to be a part of reconnecting this family at such a significant time of the year.

What is Involved?

Angel Tree Christmas begins with an enthusiastic person to build a leadership team to get their group involved. These leaders determine how many children they will serve and assess the number of volunteers necessary to make the program a success.

Using promotional pieces provided by Angel Tree, you spread the word about the opportunity to your group members and get them to participate. Common volunteer responsibilities include: calling the caregiver to verify gift wishes, setting up your Angel tree booth at your weekly meeting, collect tracking cards and answer questions, gift wrappers, gift purchasers, and gift deliverers.

Angel Tree provides your leadership team with a list of children to be served by your group. Your group contacts the families of the children and arranges what gifts are to be purchased, and when they can be delivered. Volunteers choose the name of the children for whom they will be buying gifts.

Once all the gifts have been purchased and wrapped, it's time to deliver the gifts directly to the families' homes, to host a party for the families to attend, or to ship the gifts if your children are in hard-to-serve areas of the country. Along with the gifts, volunteers share the good news of Jesus Christ with the children and their families.

How much does it cost?

The cost of Angel Tree Christmas is minimal, approximately $15-25 per child reached. Each child is to receive a gift, either toy or clothing item. When we send you the children's names, we will include a toy suggestion provided by the prisoner parent. The caregiver will make the final determination regarding an appropriate gift for the child. One gift is the minimum requirement, however, you may purchase additional gifts if you desire.

The purchaser will deliver the gifts to the specified location either wrapped, unwrapped, or in an open gift bag, at the leader’s direction.
