Forgive & Don't Forget Project
Now YOU can spread the Forgive, Don't Forget movement among your campus group, church, college, or youth group.

FDF_product_shot_300x200Prison Fellowship gives you an opportunity to help others recognize and wrestle with Jesus’ radical call to “remember those in prison” with your thoughts and actions. Those who are held captive by their own moral and spiritual darkness . . . held captive by a prison system that strips away their identity and gives them little hope for change . . . held captive by a society that would rather condemn and forget them.

By organizing the Forgive, Don’t Forget Project, you can help create awareness of the problem and the need to act. You can expose your group members to what the Bible says about serving the least of these, and help them wrestle with God’s call upon their own lives. And you can help engage your group in practical ways to impact prisoners and their families.

You will have lots of flexibility, but the general elements to the project are:

The Project

We will equip you with all the tools you need to turn your weekly meeting into a Forgive Don't Forget themed event. You will have lots of flexibility depending on the format of your meeting or how much time you have. We will equip you with different version of the "Return" documentary that highlights the challenges and success of 4 prisoners being released back into the community. We'll equip you with discussion questions and talking points so that you can craft a mini-sermon or to have a group discussion following the film. We equip you with prayer cards for your group to have a time of prayer for prisoners, ex-offenders, and their families at the event. And lots of other creative ideas. We also give you materials to set up your own Forgive Don't Forget booth so your group members can visit it after the event to learn more about or get involved in Prison Fellowship opportunities. To learn more details about the Forgive Don't Forget Project you can download the leader's guide below.

Plan the Event

A good team with good planning always leads to an effective event.
  • Share this opportunity and form a team to help lead and make your project happen.
  • Determine the best group meeting place and time to host your event. It's often best to utilize an already existing weekly or monthly meeting to have your event. Or you can create a stand-alone event and invite your group and friends to attend.
  • Determine what follow-up activities your group will participate in once the event is over.
  • Create and order and agenda for the event/meeting.

Promote the Event

The F&DF Project Kit includes several promotional pieces you may use to help promote your event including:
  • Trailer for the Return documentary and short "Forgive, Don't Forget" video that highlights college students sharing about a recent visit to prison.
  • "Forgive Don't Forget" large posters
  • Web graphics for promotion on facebook, email, or your website.
  • Print ads and flyers.

Have the Event

Again, lots of flexibility when it comes to the event. The main purposes are to:
  • Raise people's awareness of the need to remember prisoners and their families, and allow them to learn more about and discuss issues related to criminal justice.
  • Pray for those who are in prison, those who are getting out, and their families.
  • Inspire to Action. Steer them to your "Forgive Don't Forget" booth to get involved in remembering those in prison. Some of the main ways they can take action is by participating in the Get a Shirt, Give a Shirt opportunity, expressing interest in learning about local volunteer opportunities, signing up for our free monthly email, summer internship opportunities, or signing up for any follow-up activities your group has decided to engage in beyond the event.

Follow-Up Activities

#1 - Small Group Study
You can take advantage of the intereste and momentum sparked by your event by holding follow-up small group events that look at Scripture and expand on the themes of serving the least of these and remembering those in prison. We'll provide you with a six-lesson small group resource called Viewing Prisoners Through the Eyes of God.

#2 - Raising Funds to Support Those Getting Out
Get your group working together to raise needed resources to help men and women succeed as they make the transition back into the community. For example, Get everyone involved in building a prison cell out of PVC pipe. Each participant connects with family and friends to raise funds per every hour they spend in "prison," and then have them report back to their sponsors to receive the donations. Send the donations to Prison Fellowship to specifically support our work with helping prisoners prepare for reentry and getting the holistic help they need on the outside to succeed.
