A good team with good planning always leads to an effective event.
- Share this opportunity and form a team to help lead and make your project happen.
- Determine the best group meeting place and time to host your event. It's often best to utilize an already existing weekly or monthly meeting to have your event. Or you can create a stand-alone event and invite your group and friends to attend.
- Determine what follow-up activities your group will participate in once the event is over.
- Create and order and agenda for the event/meeting.
The F&DF Project Kit includes several promotional pieces you may use to help promote your event including:
- Trailer for the Return documentary and short "Forgive, Don't Forget" video that highlights college students sharing about a recent visit to prison.
- "Forgive Don't Forget" large posters
- Web graphics for promotion on facebook, email, or your website.
- Print ads and flyers.
Again, lots of flexibility when it comes to the event. The main purposes are to:
- Raise people's awareness of the need to remember prisoners and their families, and allow them to learn more about and discuss issues related to criminal justice.
- Pray for those who are in prison, those who are getting out, and their families.
- Inspire to Action. Steer them to your "Forgive Don't Forget" booth to get involved in remembering those in prison. Some of the main ways they can take action is by participating in the Get a Shirt, Give a Shirt opportunity, expressing interest in learning about local volunteer opportunities, signing up for our free monthly email, summer internship opportunities, or signing up for any follow-up activities your group has decided to engage in beyond the event.
- Download the complete Leader's Guide below to learn about all the details regarding the Forgive Don't Forget Project.
#1 - Small Group StudyYou can take advantage of the intereste and momentum sparked by your event by holding follow-up small group events that look at Scripture and expand on the themes of serving the least of these and remembering those in prison. We'll provide you with a six-lesson small group resource called Viewing Prisoners Through the Eyes of God.
#2 - Raising Funds to Support Those Getting OutGet your group working together to raise needed resources to help men and women succeed as they make the transition back into the community. For example, Get everyone involved in building a prison cell out of PVC pipe. Each participant connects with family and friends to raise funds per every hour they spend in "prison," and then have them report back to their sponsors to receive the donations. Send the donations to Prison Fellowship to specifically support our work with helping prisoners prepare for reentry and getting the holistic help they need on the outside to succeed.
