Most of the time a man walks out of prison with nothing more than an old set of clothes and a few dollars. Not much to start a new life outside. He desperately needs a job, and first impressions mean everything. If he looks like a prospective employee, he’ll have a better chance of actually getting hired. And if he’s dressed well, he’ll also have more confidence to talk about how the change on the outside reflects a much deeper change on the inside.
