‘Stuck’ in Norway Prison?

July 28, 2011 by Ryan Sanders

I hear the train a comin’, it’s rollin’ ’round the bend,
and I ain’t seen the sunshine, since, I don’t know when.
I‘m stuck in Folsom Prison, and time keeps draggin’ on. . . ”

– Johnny Cash, Folsom Prison Blues

The prison portrayed in Cash’s song is a far cry from Norway’s Halden Prison, where the mass-murderer Anders Behring Breivik may end up serving time. Read this article from The Economist and compare approaches to criminal justice from two very different perspectives. Is one approach more just than the other? Either way, looks to me like it’s a long way from “Halden Prison Blues”.
