The Board of General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene has announced that the denomination has entered into a partnership with Prison Fellowship, and is committed to increasing the number of its churches that participate in Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program.
In 2011, 130 Nazarene churches participated in Angel Tree throughout the denomination’s U.S./Canada Region. The goal is to have 500 congregations participate in 2012. Churches already involved with Angel Tree are being encouraged to consider a deeper involvement in prison ministry throughout the year.
“[T]he common mission between [Prison Fellowship and the Church of the Nazarene] is to make disciples of Christ, whether that is in the community or inside prison walls,” says Prison Fellowship President Garland Hunt. “We prayerfully look forward to … the future, as PF works to train and resource the whole of Christ’s Body to ‘remember the prisoner,’ as we are called to do in Hebrews 13:3.”
Nazarene or not, there is still time to get your church signed up to participate in Angel Tree. To find out how your church can be involved this Christmas, click here.
