On August 26, Prison Fellowship’s Angel Tree program sponsored the seventh-annual Angel Tree Football Clinic at Stanford for at-risk youth. The camp served nearly 300 boys ages 7 to 13 from northern and central California, many who have a parent behind bars.
The event was a rousing success, as the kids participating received encouragement and training from football legends, as well as a presentation of the Gospel.
Former NFL and college players and coaches volunteered their services for the free camp. Stanford, Cal, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Purdue, Missouri, Michigan, Georgia, Virginia, Kansas, Fresno State, San Diego State, San Jose State, Chico State, Sacramento State, and Ashland University were all represented in the camp coaching staff, as well as 15 different NFL teams.
The Stanford University football program hosted the event, offering their facilities, equipment, and personnel to the cause. The sports clothing company Under Armour also contributed to the cause, donating over $10,000 worth of shirts to the participants and coaches.
