COVID-19 has changed nearly everything about life as we know it. That's why Prison Fellowship is putting more easy-to-read study Bibles into the hands of prisoners than ever before!
The mission of Prison Fellowship® is to restore those affected by crime and incarceration. During the COVID-19 health crisis, a core part of our response has been to put easy-to-read copies of God's Word into the hands of prisoners.
Recently we've seen a surge in the demand for Bibles like never before! Through Prison Fellowship's online Storehouse, chaplains can order Bibles in both English and Spanish, along with other resources for their facilities. Here are some Storehouse highlights* from the last few months:
- Just in time for Easter, chaplains ordered 950 copies of the Women’s Devotional Bible for distribution in Georgia, across all four women’s prisons in the state.
- In April, due to prison closures, we contacted more than 1,300 prison chaplains in our network, reminding them to visit the Storehouse for free ministry resources. In just 48 hours, we fulfilled requests for more than 5,400 Bibles!
- Through the Storehouse, we sent out more than 15,000 copies of the NLT Life Recovery Bible by the end of May. And that doesn’t include thousands of free Bibles that chaplains and volunteers request through Inside Journal®, Prison Fellowship’s quarterly newspaper for prisons.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS
As we respond to this massive uptick in Bible requests, the response from prisoners and chaplains has been overwhelming.
I lost my way and faith a while ago. I decided to start reading the Bible again and gain my faith back … [Jesus] has shown me in many ways that He is here and to keep walking with Him. I’m still locked up and have been blessed with the [NLT] Life Recovery Bible from our chaplain. I thank you very much for a Bible like this. I absolutely love it. God bless. —Krystal, incarcerated woman in Pennsylvania
Thank you, Prison Fellowship, for providing me with a beautiful Bible. I recently received the large-print NLT Life Recovery Bible, and I am really blessed by this addition to my Christian life and growth. I thank all who were instrumental in my receiving it from the Inside Journal newspaper. –Kenneth, incarcerated man in California
These are such a wonderful resource, and the women are filled with such gratitude for them. We are a small facility, yet you can see the work of God in the lives of the ones that want to let Jesus change their lives. … Please continue to be a blessing to the captives, who need the love of Christ shown to them. Many will allow God to change them while they are incarcerated and come out [of prison] to serve Him. —Rev. Bonnie Lisker, chaplain in Pennsylvania
