Prison Fellowship Statement on Tyre Nichols

January 28, 2023 by Prison Fellowship

Prison Fellowship released the following statement after the killing of Tyre Nichols at the hands of five Memphis Police Department officers, who have now been criminally charged.

"This weekend, we once again find ourselves mourning a life unjustly taken," said Kate Trammell, Vice President of Advocacy at Prison Fellowship. "Police officers trusted to keep their community safe instead horrifically beat and ultimately killed Tyre Nichols. We applaud the swift and orderly action to hold accountable those responsible. We pray that God would provide peace and comfort for the Nichols family and the city of Memphis. And we will continue to work to pass laws, including clear use of force standards and better accountability measures for police misconduct, that will help to restore trust and safety between police and the people they serve."
