Letters from the Inside: An Opportunity to Love

November 1, 2012 by Alyson R. Quinn

Due to prison overcrowding in his native Hawaii, Shane is serving his time in Arizona—3,000 miles away from his daughter and son.

He won’t get out until 2015, but until then, Angel Tree® gives him the opportunity to love his children from afar.

“I want to thank you folks for your Angel Tree program. It has really touched my life. I have a daughter who is twelve and a son who is ten and I’ve been in prison for some years now, not being able to be a part of their lives. I’ve been using Angel Tree every year, which gives me the opportunity to show them my love and let them know they are never forgotten. I truly thank you for that.

“I am 29 years old and I’m a resident of Hawaii doing time in Arizona due to overcrowding in Hawaii’s prison system. It’s hard for my family—especially my children. My release date is October 2015. Meanwhile I’ve been trying to break this cycle of destruction by reading His word and praying diligently. I just need to find my purpose. I pray that He show me what His will is for me life.

“Anyways, I thank you for your service you are doing. You’re touching the lives of millions of people. You are greatly appreciated.”
