The yard at Folsom Prison was full of life last Friday as Prison Fellowship® hosted a special Good Friday Hope Event for over 500 prisoners.
The day featured entertainment, music, and speakers who challenged the men and women of Folsom with the message of Jesus' death and resurrection and an invitation to know God personally.
"It's amazing how many people turn to the Lord with events like this," says Greg, who has spent 30 years of his life incarcerated. "Sometimes they come out for the wrong reason—for the entertainment. And then they truly find out that they get entertained on a spiritual level."
Christian author and pastor Francis Chan spoke at the event and shared with "Insider" how important this event was.
"I love preaching in churches," he said, "but there's nothing like this. There's nothing like the opportunity for someone who just maybe doesn't understand the cross at all. And people who maybe are desperate at this point … [They] need something. [They] need Someone!"
For the prisoners who responded in faith, it will be a Friday to remember.
