2,500 gifts were handed out at an Angel Tree® Christmas party in Tennessee this past Saturday.
The New Vision Baptist Church in Murfreesboro hosted a special Christmas party for prisoners and their families. Incarcerated parents were transported to the church to spend the evening with their children.
For one family, Angel Tree is a treasured—but sometimes heartbreaking—holiday tradition.
As the holidays approach, most children’s thoughts turn to gifts. As an adult, I am of course thinking about this Advent season, and the birth of Jesus. In all honesty, though, my thoughts are also turn to having our grown children home with us, what activities I should plan, holiday baking traditions, meal planning, how much can we fit in the course of a week?
Today’s technology has made sharing photos a click away. But for those who are incarcerated, receiving photos from the outside is a difficult process.

Children in Las Vegas celebrated Christmas early this past weekend. Grapevine Fellowship Church hosted an Angel Tree® Christmas party for one hundred and thirty local children with incarcerated parents. They provided meals for the children, as well as gifts.
The holiday season is a time when Americans reflect on our blessings. We spend time with our families and loved ones. Houses are decorated, presents wait under the tree, and tables are laden with delicious holiday food.
But for many, the holidays are not a joyous occasion.
