NO LIFE IS BEYOND REDEMPTION
THE STORY OF PASTOR JON KELLY
Before becoming a pastor, Jon Kelly of Chicago spent two-thirds of his life in the criminal justice system. Along the way, he accepted responsibility for his actions and earned his GED in prison—important, purposeful steps that the parole board took into account. He left prison a changed man. Released on parole, he found gainful employment, a place to live, and a church community that helped him stay on the right path. Now he’s a husband, father, college graduate, and the lead pastor of Chicago West Bible Church.
Pastor Jon Kelly is thriving today because he was given a second chance.
"I feel like what happened to me was a process of restoration and redemption, albeit flawed and broken along the way. And it wasn’t simply the parole board; it was a collective effort of the church, of my employers, of my family and community … of people around me providing opportunities for me and me taking advantage of them by God's grace."
You can help make redemption a reality
Pastor Kelly is living proof that parole can provide a pathway to success. But for many Americans, parole and other incentives to earn release to the community are out of reach.
Together, we can a create a restorative approach to justice. We can open opportunities for programs like parole and offer a pathway to redemption—a way that compels incarcerated men and women to take responsibility and make good on a second chance.
