Speaker of the House Praised by a Leading Advocate for Criminal Justice Reform
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today Prison Fellowship®—the nation's largest outreach to prisoners, former prisoners and their families, praised Speaker of the House Paul Ryan for his recent public commitment to passing criminal justice reform in the U.S. Congress during the 2018 legislative session.
"We applaud Speaker Ryan's strong and public support for criminal justice reform," said Craig DeRoche, senior vice president of advocacy and public policy for Prison Fellowship. "The Speaker's words bring hope to the families and communities affected by crime and incarceration as Congress works to advance values-based justice reform."
Prison Fellowship advocates for a criminal justice system that upholds restorative values so that communities are safer, victims are respected, and those who have caused harm are transformed. The Church has both the unique ability and unparalleled capacity to confront the staggering crisis of crime and incarceration in America with restorative solutions.
"As demonstrated by the Justice Declaration, which has been signed by over 100 prominent Christian leaders and was delivered to Speaker Ryan in June, there is a great awakening by the Church to the need for justice in America today," added DeRoche. "Speaker Ryan and his colleagues can expect enthusiastic support from the faith community for their efforts to advance restorative solutions."
