“I never realized how much of a need there was until I got involved [with Angel Tree®],” says Christina White.

It was back in the 1990s when I was practically a kid writer here at BreakPoint that I first heard about Prison Fellowship’s amazing Angel Tree program.
I was moved by how much Chuck Colson and the Prison Fellowship staff poured themselves into making sure that thousands and thousands of prisoners’ children received gifts at Christmas time.

It was a big occasion every year. Each Christmas, Leah’s grandparents and aunts and uncles were eager to find out what gifts she had received from her dad.

Every year, we look forward to receiving letters from those who were touched by Angel Tree during the most recent Christmas season. Particularly, we love hearing from prisoner parents who express how Angel Tree helped strengthen or rebuild a relationship with their children. Earlier this year, we received a letter from a prisoner named Bill who says he was near desperation before Angel Tree volunteers delivered gifts to his children. But on February 11, everything changed.

For Sophia Pirelli, it all started in a Sunday school class.
A young boy in that class taught by Pirelli offered a tearful prayer for his father, who had been incarcerated since 2002. The prayer moved Pirelli, who says that God placed a passion in her heart at that moment to serve children who had a mom or dad behind bars.
Since 2002, Calicinto Ranch has hosted over 2,000 children of incarcerated parents.

This past Christmas, over 300,000 children of incarcerated parents were served by Angel Tree. As they received gifts on behalf of their parents, they were reminded that they are loved—both by their moms and dads, as well as by their Heavenly Father, who provided the greatest Gift of all in His Son, Jesus Christ.
