Angel Tree Camp Volunteer: ‘Kids Come Alive’ at Camp

Beau is an Angel Tree Camping® volunteer who spent four years stationed in Hawaii for the military. For three of those years he served as a mentor at Camp Agape, a summer camp founded as a ministry to prisoners' children. Beau has since taken the model of Camp Agape to start a camp in Arkansas.

Let’s Send More Kids to Angel Tree Camp!

Camp can be the highlight of a child's summer. Spending time in the great outdoors, playing games, and making crafts—the memories made at camp often last for a lifetime.

A week at camp is a chance for children with incarcerated parents to change their life story.

Bringing Hope to Forgotten Victims

How do you explain incarceration to a child?

Crime affects many people. The oft-forgotten victims are the children of the incarcerated.

In this month's issue, Smithsonian Magazine focuses on the millions of American children who struggle every day with the effects of incarceration.

The Transformative Power of God’s Love

A little boy approached James Browning at an Angel Tree® party to ask if he too could have a gift. This child had tagged along with some friends, but unlike the other children, his parents were not incarcerated.

"We could not refuse him and gave him a gift," James says.

Year in Review: Remembering ‘An Angel’

For 40 years, Prison Fellowship® has been going into correctional facilities, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those behind bars, and offering the hope of true transformation. Through the use of Bible-based programming, and with the help of thousands of committed volunteers, lives are being changed, hope is being restored, and darkness is being replaced with the promise of a future.

On the Other Side of Angel Tree: Part Two

The first part of this story appeared here.

The weather threatened to cancel the party. Temperatures hovered below freezing, the roads a mess the evening before. At 7 in the morning, we weren't even sure church would proceed as normal. But we moved forward with our plans, hoping to welcome more than 30 Angel Tree kids and their families that afternoon.

In Awe of Angel Tree

For one family, Angel Tree is a treasured—but sometimes heartbreaking—holiday tradition.

As the holidays approach, most children’s thoughts turn to gifts. As an adult, I am of course thinking about this Advent season, and the birth of Jesus. In all honesty, though, my thoughts are also turn to having our grown children home with us, what activities I should plan, holiday baking traditions, meal planning, how much can we fit in the course of a week?

Don’t Let Kids in Your Community Be Forgotten This Christmas

(Updated 12/14/2016)

Every year, Prison Fellowship assists churches in ministering to the families of incarcerated parents through its Angel Tree program.  Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of prisoners and their families with the love of Christ, offering churches an opportunity to share Christ's love by serving the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners.

Angels Wanted This Christmas

The holiday season is a time when Americans reflect on our blessings. We spend time with our families and loved ones. Houses are decorated, presents wait under the tree, and tables are laden with delicious holiday food.

But for many, the holidays are not a joyous occasion.

On the Other Side of Angel Tree …

For the bulk of the past 10 years, I’ve been on one side of Angel Tree®. As a writer for Prison Fellowship® on a national level, I get to hear and write about all of the amazing things that happen during December and beyond, as children and incarcerated parents around the country reconnect through gifts purchased and delivered by volunteers.

Throwback Thursday: Angel Tree Family Returns the Favor

Happy Thanksgiving from Prison Fellowship®! We’ve pulled one of our favorite stories out of the archives for you today. This is the story of Leah. Around Thanksgiving last year, Leah’s father Joey was released from prison.  Check out what she did out of thankfulness for the love Angel Tree® volunteers showed her during her dad’s incarceration
